Call for scores, papers, and round table proposals

Deadline: Scores, paper abstracts and round table proposals must be postmarked by August 1, 2009.
Composers will be notified by September 21, 2009.

Fee: None for submission.
Conference registration fee required if selected.

Registration fee: $65

Open to: SCI composer members. Preference will be given to scores submitted by composers affiliated with Region IV.

The Society of Composers, Inc., Region IV Conference will be held February 4-6, 2010 University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Scores will be accepted from all composers. Selected composers must join the Society of Composers, Inc. before their work will be performed (see www.societyofcomposers.org). Composers from Region IV will receive preference in score selection. Composers whose works are selected for performance during the conference must be members in good standing and must also attend the conference. Submissions from student composers are strongly encouraged and welcomed. Submissions from composers who can supply their own performers are welcomed.

Electronic/Electroacoustic and multimedia works are welcomed. We can set up 8.1-channel playback, and can produce video projection.

Call for Submissions: Scores

We welcome proposals for any combination of performing forces. However, composers may note with interest that the following ensembles have confirmed availability:

Large Jazz Ensemble

(4 trumpets, 4 trombones, 5 saxophones, rhythm section)

Chamber Choir

(24 voices, with or without solo/accompaniment)

The Skin Ensemble

Fl., 2 cl., vl., vla., vc., pf., soprano voice

The Blue Mountain Ensemble

(Flute, bassoon, piano)

Saxophone Quartet

Wind Quintet

(fl., ob., cl., bsn., hn.)

Solo/Chamber Works

Pieces including any of the standard orchestral instruments and subsets of the ensembles above are welcome.

**Composers able to provide their own performers should indicate that on the submission.

Please submit up to two compositions for consideration. For each work, submit a score, separate CD recording, program notes, and a contact sheet with the composers name, address, telephone number, email address, a list of works submitted with durations, and a brief bio.

Electronic/Electroacoustic Music - for the selection process, preferred format is DVD or CD. Please include a tech sheet with complete information regarding required resources.

Submissions that fall outside of these parameters (installations, web events, video games, etc.) may be given consideration. Please contact the Conference Host with an exploratory email.

Selections will be made by the ensemble directors and performers, in coordination with the conference hosts. Playability and available rehearsal time will be a factor in all selection decisions.

If you wish your materials returned to you, please include an SASE. Scores and recordings of acceptable quality, for which there is no SASE, will be donated to the UNCG Music Library.

Call for Submissions: Academic Writings and Discussion Panels

SCI members are invited to submit proposals for academic presentations. Any topic is acceptable; however, preference will be given to proposals falling under any of the following broad categories:

For papers

Abstracts 250 words (maximum) should be submitted via e-mail for consideration, and attached as a Word document or PDF. Also attach a CV. Identify in the e-mail the author, institutional affiliation, mailing address, phone number, e-mail address, and presentation necessities. Subject heading must be: SCI 2010 ACADEMIC WRITING SUBMISSION

For discussion panels

Please include a proposal describing the topic for discussion, a paragraph indicating your expertise on the proposed topic, and the names and relevant experience of the other members of the panel you are proposing. Include CVs.

Selected composers must provide all required performance materials. UNCG, and/or SCI will not pay rental costs or other fees relating to performance materials.
